"A healthy working forest where native species can flourish, and where local communities can connect and co-manage the forest for future generations."
BackgroundAs a result of growing interest from our community in the state of the group of forests and with the purpose of developing a collective community vision, a series of events were organised to facilitate this.
One introductory seminar, two field days, and a follow-up visioning workshop were held to invite the attention and perspectives of local community members. Our community then came together to brainstorm a collective vision. Prior to the visioning session, registered attendees were provided with some pre reading material and a survey from the community was collected asking for their specific areas of interest (e.g. native wildlife, timber, flooding etc.) as well as their vision for the forest. |
Forest Field Days
Two field days held respectively in December 2020 and January 2021 saw community come together to witness the watering event affects on the forest. The field day consisted of a tour of the Pollack Wetland and involved a demonstration of aquatic life an other flora and fauna. Information around the traditional owners of the land and their culture was shared . The second stop was to XX which showed an area of forest which had not received any environmental watering. Community were then engaged round table discussion on some initial thoughts around the pillars of what would become the community's vision for their forest.
