About the Workshop

We will be running a two and half day course in August to help prepare your enterprise for challenging growing conditions and help remain productive during dry times.

The workshop will be led by Resource Consulting Services (RCS) Advisor Nic Kentish who has worked extensively in our region. Nic has a lifetime's experience in cell grazing and different management systems and he is passionate about empowering family farming and sharing his skills and knowledge in the area. This training workshop is part of our Resilient Pastures for a Changing Climate Project.

Course Content

The six key topics include:
  • Ecology, soils and plants
  • Grazing principles
  • Grazing - drought and flood management
  • Planning
  • Time control grazing
  • Economics​

​The course has a complete focus on implementation. RCS focus on

the “real life stuff” that counts when it comes to getting the most out
of your land, livestock and business.

Practical Knowledge
  • ​Understand how to assess rest period and calculate graze period, while accurately matching stocking rate to carrying capacity.
  • See and learn the decision making processes in the paddock.
  • ​Get the latest on fencing, property layout, water design and moving stock.

Control your grazing outcomes through
  • the practical application of the RCS principles
  • active use of their grazing chart
  • good use of planning tools including MaiaGrazing and functional
  • visionary property design for this century
  • ​careful integration of livestock into cropping systems.

Build your knowledge
  • Learn how to assess rest periods, and effectively match stocking rate to carrying capacity.
  • Create your own grazing chart and develop strategies for property planning and overall improved grazing management.
  • ​Understand how to adapt to seasonal and climate variability, and monitor and record changes on farm.
